Mark 6:36-32 " The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them,' Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.' So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place."
A dream of mine for many years has been to attend a Willow Creek Leadership Summit at the Willow Creek church in Chicago. I have been to their satellite conferences but I want to be there up close and personal. The council this year was kind enough to set aside funds for me to take this trip along with a special donation made from some folks who attend Willow Creek and were visiting here. We decided since we were going to be that far up we might as well see more of this great land. Joe and I will leave Sunday afternoon pulling our camper heading to Chicago. After the conference we will then take three weeks vacation and head West. We will visit a dear friend and prayer partner of mine who lives near Sacramento, CA. We look forward to seeing some of our beautiful western states especially Yellowstone National Park.
I love being the pastor of this church. I cherish the time I spend in study, preaching, teaching and counseling. But even Jesus and the disciples had to get away from time to time to rest. Even though we will be doing a lot of driving, seeing God's magnificent creation in the mountains and oceans of our great land will refresh and renew our spirits. What will be even greater is that when we return home we will again be reminded that there are few places even in the Rockies that are as beautiful as our own Florida Keys. Whenever we find a campground that has wi-fi service I will be blogging about our trip. Come with us via the website as we explore " from the mountains to the prairie to the oceans white with foam." God bless America and God bless all of you.
